Last night I dreamt that my mom was feeling generous and bought me a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera and a Holga 12oN. A Polaroid and a fucking Holga at one shot was the best dream that I can ever recall. And for those who knows me all too well should know that I suck at recalling anything because of my short term memory.
So what was it that attracted me to the Holga? It may have been any number of things... The dreamy ethereal images, the square format or the wide angle lens that forces you to move closer to your subject. I was immediately struck by its simplicity - fixed shutter speed, one effective aperture and basic focus. At first I found this simplicity restrictive but I soon found it quite liberating. Sheer unadulterated fun. When I'm asked to describe how a Holga would make me feel, I retort "It's just like being a kid again." For me, seeing everything through a plastic lens hides a lot of the negativity of growing into adulthood. Leaving me with a world that is simpler and more colourful. Lesser stress and blissfully innocent. Cheap thrill you might think/say but it can put a smile on my face and make me feel really really happy.
But I'd think twice right now if I had a Canon DSLR or a Holga or a Polaroid. Whether to start snapping photos like mad when I'm out with my buddies or something cos obviously some no-brainers will start labelling. Oh come on, I've been interested in photography even way before it became a trend. So please. Don't start judging.
Anyway with so much being said, it is afterall just a dream. My mom will never, in a million years (make it a zillion years please), buy me a Holga cos its so mothereffing expensive now... Much less buy me two different kind of cams at the same time. Alrighty going off to the clinic to get my mc and then head down to mg.

Have a good day and enjoy your lunch and whatever you pop inside your mouths everyone, toodles :)
